APEC SME Crisis Management Center originated from a proposal made by Chinese Taipei at the APEC SME Ministerial Meeting in 2009, which won unanimous support from the participants. After one year of intensive planning and preparation, the APEC Center has formally operated; this is the first APEC center to be established in Chinese Taipei.

In the rapidly-developing Asia Pacific region, the fast-changing social and economic enviroment and unforeseeable crises that affect economies all over the world have made them evident that SMEs need to cultivate crisis management capabilities. It is our earnest hope that Center will be able to work for the benefit of all APEC member economies and help SMEs in this region strengthen their crisis management capabilities.

With support from all over APEC economies, now the Center has successfully inaugurated its operation. Based on the good start, we are building a solid follow-up arrangement to strengthen the Center research and training capacity so that the vision we developed will come into implementation. This will be the true success of APEC SME Crisis Management Center as it is an affordable and sustainable access to crisis management for APEC SMEs.
